There was commotion at the Redeemers University in Mowe, Ogun State this morning as fire gutted Queen Esther Hall, one of the institution’s female hostels.
The fire was said to have started from one of the air conditioners in the hostel.
The air conditioner was said to have sparked when there was change of power supply before spreading.
Female students in the hostel panicked and rushed out of the hostel.
It however took the prompt intervention of a team of rescuers to stop the fire from spreading beyond control.
A source at the school disclosed to P.M.NEWS that students of the hostel had been complaining about the malfunctioning air conditioner to the school authorities, but it fell on deaf ears.
“There had been complaints over the bad state of the AC, but no action was taken on it. We just thank God that no casualty was involved,” the source said.
Efforts to speak to authorities of the school as at the time of filing this report was abortive.
