Enyimba International of Aba confirmed their supremacy over arch rivals, Rangers International of Enugu, as they defeated them 2-0 in a Nigeria Premier League, NPL tie.

The encounter, tagged ‘Oriental Derby’ was played Sunday afternoon at the Aba Township Stadium in Abia State.

Former Enugu Rangers forward, Razak Adegbite, shot Enyimba into the lead in the first half after Rangers goalkeeper tamely parried a free kick, which Adegbite headed into the net. Rangers came out in search of an equaliser but failed to hit target until centre referee Sani Mohammed signalled the end of the first half.

Another former Rangers player, Ugwu Uwadiegwu added the second goal after curling a free kick from outside the 18-yard box into the net.

Uwadiegwu, who earlier got a yellow card, was booked again and subsequently sent off by the referee when he removed his jersey in frenzy of celebration.

In his post match reaction, goal scorer Adegbite described their victory as a sweet one for him because he believes his former club never knew he could score against them.

“I’m happy for the victory, everybody in our camp both the players and officials are happy for the victory, and for me, Rangers were surprised at my game. We are going to celebrate this victory in our camp”,

Adegbite said.

For Coach Okey Emordi and Ifeanyi Ede of Rangers, the outcome of the game was not favourable.
