The Acting Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Mr Adams Audu, on Thursday took over control of the Lawanson Motor Park from the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some members of the union had on Wednesday clashed over the control of the park during which several people were reportedly wounded and business activities paralysed.

A statement signed by the Command’s spokesman, SP Joseph Jaiyeoba, said that the decision to take over control of the park was aimed at maintaining normalcy in the area.

The statement said that the command’s action was necessitated by a recent disturbance of the public peace and order caused by the NURTW in various parts of the state.

“Subsequently, any motor park under the aforementioned union that violates the edict of the state or the law of the federation will also be taken over by the authority of the Police Force in the state with immediate effect,” it said.

“Henceforth, members of the NURTW within the state are seriously warned to play according to the rules of the game by obeying this order to the letter or have themselves to blame,” the statement added.
