KAI Officials Remanded For Murder

Two officials of Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI, the law enforcement arm of the Ministry of the Environment, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, have been ordered to be remanded in prison custody by a Chief Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Oyingbo, Lagos, over alleged murder.

The KAI officials, Taiwo Fashola, 52 and Musiliu Ismaila, 45 and others now at large were alleged to have killed 24-year old Okaja Ahamefula, a street trader arrested by the officials, on 28 August, 2011. They were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder.

The prosecuting police officer, Inspector Ajala Ebi told the court that the offences contravened Sections 231 and 221 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges and the presiding magistrate, Mr. Olatunji O. ordered that they should be remanded in prison custody, pending an advice from the Director of Public Prosecution.

Olatunji also ordered the investigatiing police officer in-charge of the case to duplicate the case file and forward it to the DPP for advice.

The case has been adjourned till 16 February, 2012, for DPP’s advice.
