Beninois Arrested With Human Skull

Operatives at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, have arrested a Beninois, Tunzon Sylvester, 25 for allegedly being in possession of a human skull.

He was arrested with his accomplice, Muritala Batula, 30 on 2 December, 2011, at Seme Border, around 1 p.m.

After the investigation, the accused were arraigned on a count charge of unlawful possession of a human skull, an offence which contravenes Section 236, Laws of Lagos state of Nigeria.

The charge reads: “That you, Muritala Batula and Tunzon Sylvester, on 2 December, 2011, at about 1300 hours, at Seme Border, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully have in your possession a dry human skull, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 236, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011. They pleaded not guilty to the charge and the presiding magistrate, Mr. T. O. Abolarinwa, granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety each.

The sureties, according to the magistrate, should present to the court evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos State government.

Their means of livelihood and addresses must also be verified by the court prosecutor.

The case was adjourned till 6 February, 2012, for mention while the accused were moved to the Ikoyi Prison on the orders of the magistrate when they could not meet the bail conditions.
