Worried by the poor infrastructure at the Gbeleyi Primary School 11, Alakuko in Ojokoro Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, the council has assured that the school will soon wear a new look.

Vice Chairman of the council, Alhaja Fausat Hassan-Olajoku, who gave the pledge at the school’s third Annual Inter-House Competition recently, said apart from rehabilitating the school to make it rank among the best in Lagos State, the council will also provide free uniforms and lunch for the pupils to enhance their welfare.

She said the LCDA executive council, under the Chairman, Adeyemi Olabinjo, was interested in the overall welfare of the pupils and members of staff of all the schools in the LCDA and urged the pupils to be more disciplined.

She commended the school for organising the competition, stating that sports were a veritable tool to discover and develop new talents for national development.

Commenting on the competition, a youth leader, Abdul Wasiu Aleshinloye, urged youths in the area to take sports more seriously and avoid anti-social vices like drugs and alcohol, just as a member of the school’s Parents’ Forum Association, Mrs. Cecilia Afolabi, regretted that the school lacked sporting facilities like table tennis and basketball courts.

Meanwhile, the White House, otherwise called Alhaja Fausat Hassan-Olajoku House, emerged the overall winner, while Blue House came second among other competing houses including Purple, Yellow and pink.
