President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, Solomon Ogba, has said that the only way for Nigeria to shine at the London 2012 Olympic Games is for the government to release funds on time for the athletes to make adequate preparations.

The two-time former Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development in Delta State appealed to the government to release funds in earnest in order for the athletes to begin their training for the games.

“The preparation for the Olympic Games does not start when the games commence. That is why I am appealing to the government to release funds so that the athletes can start their preparations on time,” said Ogba.

Though the former Sole Administrator, Delta State Sports Council, believes that the government will certainly release funds to prepare the athletes ahead of the games but his fear is that the funds may come too late to make adequate preparations.
