Timipre Sylva,  Governor of Bayelsa state, who opened re-election campaign yesterday was banned today  from running by his party’s  National Working Committee.

The decision by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party NWC was announced in Abuja today. Sylva has promptly said he was going to abide by the decision and that he would not leave the PDP.

Also screened out of the election scheduled for January next year are Timi Alaibe and the entertainment business mogul, Ben Murray Bruce. and Igali Godknows Boladet

A press release signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Professor Rufai Ahmed Alkali  revealed that after a review of two reports and after a painstaking examination of all the issues raised about each and every aspirant, the NWC cleared seven out of the 11 aspirants. The cleared aspirants are:    Orufa Justine Boloubo,  Dickson Seriake Henry,  Enai Christopher Fullpower,     Kalango Michael Youppele ,Francis Amaebi,   Ekiyegha Francis Korobido and  Austin Febo

Alkali said the party has made its final decision on the status of all the candidates, the PDP says, Alaibe Ndutimi, Ben Murray Bruce, Timipre Marun Sylva, Igali Godknows Boladet have not been cleared for the election which will hold on November 18, 2011.

Sylva was elected governor in 2007, but the election was cancelled a year after by the election tribunal for fraud.

He won the re-run election again, according to the corrupt  election umpire at the time. Another election is scheduled for January 2012.
