Fashola Swears In Council Men Tomorrow

Despite the dispute generated by last Saturday’s Local Government polls, Governor Babatunde Fashola will tomorrow swear in the new 20 Local Government and 37 Local Council Development Areas, LCDA chairmen.

As a result of the swearing in of the council chairmen and councillors, the governor has ordered the cancellation of tomorrow’s monthly sanitation exercise.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has rejected the results announced by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC which gave the ACN victory in the chairmanship election conducted in all the local governments and LCDAs.

There have been riot and protests by the PDP supporters in some parts of the Lagos metropolis. They said their party’s candidates won the chairmanship polls in five local government councils, which include Ikoyi-Obalende, Badagry West, Agbado Oke-Odo, Eredo and Somolu.

Fashola had congratulated the ACN chairmen for emerging victorious at the council polls and will be swearing them in tomorrow at a grand ceremony at the Lagos Television Ground, Ikeja, Lagos South West Nigeria.

ACN Chairman, Lagos State, Chief Henry Ajomale told P.M.NEWS that all is set for the swearing in of the council chairmen, saying adequate security arrangement had been made to forestall any break down of law and order.

On the possibility of the opposition party attacking people at the swearing in, Ajomale said: “why will they want to do that? I believe they are civilised; they should go to court and tribunal and if they win, no problem. We are not in the jungle.

“We should respect the rule of law. We are in court in some states where we felt cheated and we don’t take laws into our hands.

Lagos Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy, Kuye Ademorin said the state government is set for the inauguration of the council chairmen so that they could begin work immediately.

He said he would not subscribe to any form of violence from the opposing party and that it was improper for anyone to take laws into their hands, while urging the PDP to go to the tribunal if they are aggrieved.

Expected at the swearing in ceremony are former governor of Lagos of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, ex-governors, ex-council chairmen, party leaders, ACN members in the National Assembly, the Chief Judge, among others.
