Governors to meet Jonathan over constitution amendment

The Nigeria Governors` Forum (NGF) is to meet with President Goodluck Jonathan over the proposed amendment of the 1999 Constitution.

The Forum’s Chairman, Gov. Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers, disclosed this to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday at the end of the governors’ meeting, which lasted about five hours.

He said that the meeting was convened to examine some salient issues relating to the proposed constitution amendment, as well as other topical national issues.

Amaechi said that the essence of the governors’ meeting with Jonathan was to enable them to contribute to the constitution’s amendment process as interested parties.

He said that after the meeting, the governors would also go to the National Assembly.

“However, our meeting today(Tuesday) was inconclusive because there are a lot of issues we have yet to deliberate on.

“However, the meeting will be reconvened in two weeks time to enable us to conclude our deliberations and issue a communiqué on our decisions,’’ Amaechi said
