All is set to unveil the final 30 contestants who will compete in this year’s edition of the Gulder Ultimate Search, GUS, 8, a hit television reality show sponsored by the Nigerian Breweries plc.

The 30 contestants, P.M.NEWS learnt, will be revealed at an elaborate event which will take place tonight at the Expo Hall of the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The lucky finalists are expected to proceed to the Egbetua Quarters, Ososo Mountains in Akoko Edo, Edo State, where the eighth series of the show will be held.

It is gathered that 45 contestants finally emerged after intensive and gruelling screening exercise that covered four cities across the country- Abuja, Benin, Owerri and Lagos.

Over 21,000 individuals from the nooks and crannies of Nigeria had applied to partake in GUS 8. After rigorous and painstaking physical selection exercise, the applicants were pruned down to 60, who arrived earlier in the week for a 3-day psychological drill.

During the drill, a professional psychologist tested the depth of their mental alertness, level of creativity, impulse, temperament, preparedness for the jungle life, survivability, patience, and stamina. Fifteen of the applicants were asked to go home after the Lagos drill, thus leaving the number of the GUS 8 hopefuls at 45.

Tonight, the applicants will know their fate as another 15 will be asked to go home, while the final 30 contestants will proceed to the jungle.

“The final 30 can then pop cans and bottles of Gulder in excitement as they step into the jungle to compete for the ultimate prize,” said Ita Bassey, Senior Brand manager, Gulder.

This year’s version of the reality TV show has been tagged ‘Contest of Champions’. The winner will go home with N7 million, a brand new SUV worth N10 million and N500, 000 wardrobe allowance.

“GUS is a competition for which many of the applicants train several months ahead. They may have toiled to increase the level of endurance to withstand the strain of the physical exercises; they may have practiced their swimming skills to pass that test. But emerging as the Ultimate Hero goes further than physical exercises and ability to flaunt finesse,” Bassey said.

Gulder Ultimate Search is Nigeria’s first 100 per cent local content reality TV show. It was first staged in 2004 and has been organised annually.

Oyekunle Oluwaremi won last year’s edition of the show held inside Omo Forest, J4, in Ijebu East of Ogun State.
