KAI Arrests 70 Environmental Offenders

Law enforcement unit of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment, Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) brigade has arrested 70 people for violating the monthly environmental sanitation law.

In a statement, Mr. Tunde Olusesi, the spokesman of the unit, said those arrested were found at Ojota and the old toll gate while trying to travel out of Lagos.

Others, he disclosed, were arrested at Ogudu, Oshodi, Agege, Mile 2, Palmgrove and Ikeja roaming about between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m., period of the sanitation exercise.

Those arrested were arraigned before a magistrateâ€s court at Alausa, Ikeja, on a count charge of violating the state’s environmental laws, an offence punishable under Section 18(1) of the Environmental Sanitation Laws, Cap.5, Vol.2, Laws of Lagos State.

They pleaded guilty to the charge.

In his judgment, Magistrate Adedamola Paul sentenced each accused to two weeks imprisonment with option of 2,000 fine.

He warned them to desist from violating the environmental sanitation day laws of the state.
