Following the recent flood disaster that occurred in the state, Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) Brigade, the law enforcement unit of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment has warned traders and residents to desist from the act of dumping refuse into canals or drainages.
Captain Danjuma Maigeiri (rtd), the outfit’s Marshal General, gave the warning in a press statement at the weekend.
The KAI boss stated that the warning became necessary because majority of traders and residents of the state had formed the habit of dumping refuse in the canals or drainages near their houses or places of trading, thereby impeding the free flow of water whenever it is rains.
He called on owners of containers and shanties erected on drainages to remove them, warning that failure to comply attracts grave penalties.
Maigeiri also stated that the present government in the state would not fold its arms and allow those he called enemies of progress to jeopardise its good effort at making Lagos free of flood.
He appealed for support for the state government in putting in place preventive measures to stop the reoccurrence of the recent flood disaster in which many lives and property were lost.
In another development, the brigade has donated some food items confiscated from street traders to Bethlehem Orphanage and Charity Home, Bangbola Street, Egbeda.
According to the KAI boss, the donation was in line with the philanthropic gesture of the Lagos State Government, adding that it was according to the directive of the state government that confiscated food items should be donated to orphanages.
Mr. Tunde Olusesi, the outfit’s spokesman, who donated the items, commended the management of the orphanage for its humanitarian service to the inmates, adding that the donation was done in order to encourage them to do more.
“It is our belief that these items will help in alleviating part of the nutritional problems of the inmates of your home,†Olusesi noted.
Receiving the items on behalf of the management, the Matron of the Home, Mrs. Bola Olowoyeye, expressed gratitude to the management and staff of the Ministry of the Environment for the kind gesture.
