Fela’s son and the Afro beat king Femi Anikulapo-Kuti has said that the reason he has filed a divorce suit against his enstraged wife Funke is because he never believed in marriage in the first place.

Speaking with P.M.NEWS, Femi, who turned 49 last Thursday, said: “I have no regret marrying Funke, because she bore me Made, who is my bundle of joy. I love Made so much and I will never use the divorce against him, more so he loves his brothers and sisters from different mothers too.”

Continuing, he said that though the marriage broke down because of irreconcilable differences, “I never believed in marriage because it is very complex. If we had not married may be we might have been able to manage the

very well.”

Femi further told P.M.NEWS that “apart from the complex nature of marriage both of us were in the limelight. I was singing while she was dancing, so the two of us are in the public glare at the same time, more so it is not easy to marry a musician and I am one.”

Femi, who has been separated from his wife for over seven years, said that he and Funke still communicate.

“We speak on phone, in fact she called me on my birthday to wish me happy birthday. She has unrestricted access to Made, the only child of the marriage. You can see we are not sworn enemies,” he said.
