An Abuja Senior Magistrate’s Court on Monday cautioned a 21-year-old labourer, Ami Terfa, for attempting to rape a woman.

The accused had pleaded guilty to the charge and was freed by the court for showing remorse.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Cpl. Glory Iheanacho, told the court that the accused on June 13 went to the victim’s house in Kurudu, Abuja, and attempted to rape her.

Iheanacho said the accused, who was the complainant’s errand boy, came into the house on request to iron his clothes.

She said when the accused found out that no one was at home, he attempted to rape the owner of the apartment, who raised an alarm and was rescued by passers-by.

When the charge was read, Terfa pleaded guilty and begged the court, saying he never knew he was going the wrong path.

“ I am sorry for what I did. I have been asking her for a relationship but she would not respond to my offer.

“I only wanted to show her how much I loved her; I beg this court and the girl to please pardon me,” Terfa said.

The victim, who was present in court, told the court to forgive the accused as she had forgiven him.

She, however, prayed the court to warn him from coming to her house any longer.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Nkwadimi Buba, warned Terfa against such act with the girl or any other person.
