Student Breaks Bottle On Colleague's Head

The police at Orile Police Division, Orile Iganmu, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, have arrested a secondary school student and arraigned him before the Surulere Magistrate’s Court on one-count charge of injuring his colleague by stabbing him with a bottle on his head during a fight.

The incident occurred at Iganmu Senior Scondary School, Orile Iganmu, Lagos.

The police alleged in the charge sheet that the accused, Jamiu Muritala, 18, assaulted Ajagunna by stabbing him with a bottle on the head during a fight. The offence, according to the prosecuting police officer, Corporal Bekeme Ebi, is punishable under Section 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 17, Vol. 11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges when it was read to him and the presiding magistrate, M. K. O. Fadeyi, admitted him on bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties and adjourned the matter till 15 June, 2011.

The accused was detained at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison, Apapa on the orders of the magistrate, pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions.
