The wife of Ekiti governor, Mrs. Bisi Fayemi, has promised to focus on the economic empowerment of people in the state.

Fayemi, who is the President of African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF), made the pledge on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti while announcing the establishment of Ekiti Development Foundation (EDF).

The formal launching of the foundation in Ado-Ekiti would hold on June 10 and would have Chief Michael Ade-Ojo and Dr. Tunji Olowolafe among the launchers.

“The Ekiti Development Foundation will focus on economic empowerment, political participation, healthcare, education, training, promoting local philanthropy and the arts in the state,” she said.

The foundation, she added, would provide technical assistance and support to the Ekiti Government on programmes related to women empowerment and gender equality as contained in the administration’s eight-point agenda.

In addition, she said EDF would focus on initiatives aimed at empowering women and youths economically as well as provide capital for a revolving loan for women cooperatives.

In the area of arts, culture and sports, Fayemi said the foundation would showcase the skills and talents of Ekiti women and youths as weavers, sculptors, painters and potters as well as find appropriate markets for their products.

She further said that the foundation would be run as a non-governmental organisation.
