419 Suspect Faces Trial

A man, Femi Modupe, 55, has been docked at the Abule Egba Magistrate’s Court, Lagos for stealing N500, 000 from a complainant, Ayodele Ayodeji on the pretence of producing a statue and waterfall for him.

The prosecutor, Inspector Lugard Ahonle disclosed in the charge sheet the accused collected the money and refused to carry out the projects. The offence is punishable under Sections 419, 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap.32, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

The charge reads: “That you, Femi Modupe on 28 January, 2011 at 26, Adedeji Avenue, Oko-Odo in the Ikeja Magisterial District did steal the sum of N500,000 from Ayodeji Ayodele.

“You, on the same day and time did obtain N500,000 belonging to Ayodeji Ayodele on the pretence of producing a statue and a waterfall for him.”

He pleaded not guilty to the charges and the magistrate, Mr. Owolabi Komolafe granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000 and adjourned the case till 20 June, 2011.
