Lagos lawmakers have called on the commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) to dispatch his men to Moore Road in Yaba to curb the activities of armed robbers in the area.

The Lagos State House of Assembly also called on Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LPWC) to repair the bad portion on the road, which causes slow movement of traffic and give room for robbers to operate freely.

The Assembly further directed LPWC to put street lights in the area to reduce robbery incidents as it is usually deserted and lonely at night.

The lawmakers made the call after the member representing Lagos Mainland Constituency 2, Olanrewaju Oshun, under Matters of Urgent Public Importance, called the attention of his colleagues to incessant cases of armed robbery on the road.

Oshun, while explaining how armed robbers have continued to terrorise the area, said “Moore Road is dark, bad and quiet, which allows armed robbers to operate freely whenever there is traffic jam caused by a bad section of the road.

“Three police officers from Sabo Police Division have been killed on the road, while residents of the area are on daily basis terrorised by the men of the underworld.”

The lawmakers who responded to Oshun’s complaints, stressed the need for the road to be repaired as well as adequately illuminated in addition to increasing security patrol to reduce the menace of robbery.

According to Sanai Agunbiade, “the House must call on every necessary and relevant agency to move into action and quell the situation in the area.”

Oshun, who was asked to move a motion after the contributions of his colleagues, urged them to direct the officers of the RRS to dispatch its men to the area, with a view at ensuring that armed robbers that have taken over the place be chased out.

The lawmaker also called on LPWC to repair the road and install street lights to forestall further incidents.
