Badagry DPO Died Fasting —Wife

Wife of the slain Divisional Police Officer attached to Badagry Division, CSP Salihu N. Samuel, Elizabeth, has condemned the brutal killing of her husband and others by soldiers of 424 Army Batallion in Badagry.

P.M.NEWS met Elizabeth Samuel, 40, mother of five, all girls, at her house, A29 Lisabi Court Road, Ibara Housing Estate, Abeokuta, Ogun State, where she lamented the death of her husband, saying that he was fasting at the time of his death.

The living room of the family was full with sympatisers who came to commiserate with her on the death of her husband.

At the entrance, a condolence register was opened in memory of the late DPO.

Elizabeth, a native of Kebbi State, married the late CSP Samuel in 1994. She spoke in tears as she narrated how she learnt of her husband’s death.

“No evil deeds shall go unpunished in the name of God Almighty and I know my husband is resting in the bosom of the Lord.  He died fasting.

“The last time I set my eyes on him was on Sunday before he was killed. He came to see his children and myself after a church service at the Redeemed Evangelical Mission, TREM. He was a staunch member of the church.

“He bought something for his children at Omida Market, Abeokuta. He was giving the children the goods when he received a call from one of his officers at the station.

“The officer told him it was a serious problem which needs urgent attention. He rushed out and bade us goodbye. Unknown to us, it was a goodbye for life.”

“On Monday, around 4 p.m., he sent money to his younger brother to enable him collect his children’s result so that the children will be in the same school with his children. I later learnt of his death through our pastor.

“I pray it won’t be difficult to pay for these children’s school fees.

“All his children are in Mayflower School, Ikenne, Ogun State. He also left behind aged parents.

“I know President Goodluck Jonathan is a good man and Mrs. Patience Jonathan has been taking care of widows. She should remember us.

“The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim and the governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola should please, come to the aid of these children by giving them good education,” she pleaded.

Meanwhile, the remains of the late Operation Officer, ASP Taofeek Afolabi were buried in his house at Ojuelegba, Arinko, Ijoko, Ogun State amidst wailings at the weekend.

The deceased’s wife, Mrs. Folashade Taofeek Afolabi, mother of two, described her husband’s death as painful.
