Ex-senate President Is Secretary To Nigeria's Government

Less than 48 hours after he was sworn in, President Goodluck Jonathan has signified his intention to hit the ground running with the appointment of a new Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

The new SGF as announced by the Presidency Monday is former Senate President, Pius Anyim Pius.
The new SGF is from Ebonyi State.  The appointment of Anyim is in line with the zoning policy of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP in which the position has been zoned to the South East.

Anyim replaced Yayale Ahmed, who has been occupying the office since 2007.

Also, the President has re-appointed General Andrew Owoeye Azazi as his National Security Adviser. The Bayelsa born retired General has been occupying the position since last year.

In the same vein, a statement by Musa Adwak, Director of Information in the Presidency Monday indicated that the tenure of all those holding ministerial appointments, Special Advisers, Senior Special Advisers and Special Assistants has expired on 29 May with the end of the lifespan of the old administration.
