The duo of Tywo and Kenny Akintoye popularly known as Twin-X, have staged a dramatic comeback to the music scene as they mark their 10 years on stage today, which makes it exactly 10 years that the twin brothers released their first single entitled Mother Mi.
The song, which became an instant hit, was described by pundits as the next evergreen song for mothers, after Niko Mbarga’s Sweet Mother.
They have, however, concluded plans to re-produce some of their old tunes so that fans can have access to download them from the internet to their phones. Arrangements have also been made for their other songs like Miliki and Plenty Money to be on mobile caller tunes and ring back tunes.
Speaking with P.M. Entertainment, Kenny reminisced: “it feels like yesterday when we came to Lagos to promote Mother Mi with our manager then, Big Bamo. We were new in town with no special connections with the mainstream media but for a few friends and family here and there.
“But on eventual release, the song spoke for itself and paved the way for us; we shot a star-studded video which featured some of the top media, music and movie stars of that time, a masterpiece in its own right.
“Then, our journey into recognition started. The tours, the gigs, fans, awards, joy of touching lives, the campuses, the school children and love from mothers in different parts of Africa, became regular features in our quiet lives even as we remained in the university to complete
our degrees.â€
When asked why Twin-X went off the music scene for some years now, Tywo reacted: “It feels great to know that our works are still valued and to also know that we have inspired a whole lot of the current wave making artistes in Nigeria. We humbly say thank God and that we are proud of the role model tag and your evergreen rating of our works.
“Truly, we have since been involved in developing our career and other professional activities in the world of Creative Media/PR and Project Management/IT, but music remains our soul and we still play it with our band and professionally too, on the platform of our new line under the Twin-X brand called ‘Your Wedding MCs’.
“While we remain passionate about our music, it will not deter us from excelling in other areas of competence.â€
