FG Pledges To Improve Investment In Nigerian Children

The Federal Government on Friday pledged to improve its investment in Nigerian children in order to guarantee the future of the country.

 

President Goodluck Jonathan made the pledge through the FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed who delivered the President’s speech at the Children’s Day Celebration at the Old Parade Ground situated in the Garki District of Abuja metropolis.

 

The President also conveyed his commitment to the implementation of necessary reforms that will make government accountable, tackle disparities between the rich and the poor as well as wage war against malaria and HIV/AIDS.

 

He promised to ensure gender equality and reduce violence in our society through adequate security measures.

 

President Jonathan also re-stated his campaign promises and assured that his administration is committed to pursuing the dream that any Nigerian child from any part of this country will be able to realise his God-given potentials.

 

According to him, “we will build on the virtues of love and respect for one another, pursue unity, promote and reward hard work with no room given for indolence.

 

“As I take my oath of office on May 29, 2011, I urge us all to re-dedicate ourselves to creating a Nigeria fit for all, especially our children, a Nigeria in which all children are given love, care, and the nurturing required to make a good start in life.”

The President remarked that Nigerian children should be able to have access to good and quality education as well as enjoy good healthcare.

 

He pledged that his administration will as a matter of right, provide the necessary opportunity and enabling environment for the children to develop their potentials to enable them to grow and become responsible and productive adults.

 

“This is the kind of Nigeria that our children deserve and this is the kind of social system that we owe it a duty to provide for the people,” the president emphasised.

 

Welcoming guests to the occasion, the Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Josephine Anenih, remarked that this year’s Children’s Day is a special one because it coincides with the inauguration of President Goodluck Jonathan to lead the country for the next four years.

 

She lauded the great foundation laid by President Jonathan that will afford the children realise their potentials.

 

The FCT Minister who was supported at the occasion by his friend and the Mayor of Dallas, USA, Mr. Dwayne Caraway doled out scholarship to five Nigerian children for one week training in USA.

 

The lucky children are from Regina Pacis College, Al-Rahman School, School for Deaf, Government Secondary School, Area 11 and Tintsel International School all in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
