Fraudster Dupes 5 Students

An alleged fraudster, Kingsley Nwogu, 26, has been arraigned before a Cele Magistrate’s Court, Isolo, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria for allegedly duping five students.

Nwogu was alleged to have obtained N55,000 from the students with a promise to register them for WAEC examination but failed to do so.

The prosecutor, Mr. Lucky Efegheremoni accused him of collecting money under false pretence and charged him with a three-count charge of felony, stealing and fraud, offences contrary to and punishable under Sections 516, 419(d) and 390(d) of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.38, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2004.

Count three of the charge reads: “That you, Kingsley Nwogu on 24 February, 2011 at 48/50, Akewukewe Street, Ijeshatedo in the Lagos magisterial district did commit felony, to wit, obtaining money under false pretence and stealing, offences punishable under Sections 390(d), 419(d) and 516(d) of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.38, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2004.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Awogboro, granted him bail in the sum of of N50,000 with one surety.

She directed that the surety must show evidence of payment of tax to the Lagos State government.

The case has been adjourned till 2 June, 2011 for mention.
