Police Recover Four Vehicles From Robbers

Policemen attached to the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, have arrested one suspected armed robber identified as Edibo Yahaya.

P.M.NEWS investigations revealed that Yahaha and other members of his gang allegedly robbed the vehicle, a Toyota Hiace marked XM916KTU at gunpoint on 22 April, 2011 on Ijebu-Ode-Shagamu Expressway. The matter was subsequently reported at Shagamu Police Station and the police began a manhunt for the robbers.

The suspect, P.M.NEWS learnt, has already confessed to the crime and has made some useful statements.

Speaking with P.M.NEWS, the Lagos State police image maker, Mr. Samuel Jinaidu(DSP), said the suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigation into the matter is concluded.

He appealed to members of the public to always give the police information to assist in the fight against criminals.

In a related development, the police in Lagos State have arrested three suspected robbers and recovered three cars.

The suspects,Yekini Adeleke, Fatai Idowu and Muyiwa Eletan, were alleged to have stolen the vehicles on 20 April, 2011 in Ota, Ogun State and on 26 April, 2011 took the cars to a hideout where Yekini Adeleke who is a spray painter was changing the colour of one of the cars from Gold colour to Black when information got to the police at Red House Police Station, Iju.

P.M.NEWS learnt that the Divisional Crime Officer attached to the station, ASP Abimbola, led a team of anti-robbery squad to the scene and arrested the three suspects.

Vehicles recovered from them, findings revealed, are Honda CRV marked BU901KTU, Toyota Camry saloon marked JM92AKD and Honda Accord saloon marked DW48APP.

A police source at Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Ikeja, confirmed that at the time of the arrest, the suspects had already changed the registration numbers of the two Honda cars in order to deceive the police.

“This guys think they are clever. They have already exchanged the number plates of the two Honda cars. They removed the CRV number and put it on the Honda car and put the Honda car number on the CRV just to beat the police but we are up to the task,” he said.

The police have vowed to prosecute the suspects as soon as investigations are concluded.
