Police Arraign Man For Public Disturbance

A man, Yinka Olabode, 20, has been docked at the Abule Egba Magistrate’s Court, Lagos for attempting to disturb public peace.

The prosecutor, Inspector Lugard Ahonle disclosed in the charge sheet that the offences he committed were punishable under Sections 516, 249 of the Criminal Code, Cap.32, Vol. 11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

The charge reads: “That you, Yinka Olabode on 24 April, 2011 at Abule Egba, Lagos in the Ikeja Magisterial District did conspire to commit felony, to wit, attempt to disturb public peace, an offence punishable under Sections 519, 249 of the Criminal Code, Cap.32, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.” He pleaded not guilty to the charges and the presiding magistrate, Mr. Owolabi Komolafe granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties who must be his blood relations.

The magistrate ordered that he should be remanded in prison custody when he was unable to fulfill the bail conditions.

The case has been adjourned till 23 May, 2011.
