Collapsed Fence Kills Boy, 5, Injures Siblings

The day, 11 May, 2011 is a day the Adeleye family will never forget as the family lost their 5-year-old son when a fence fell on him and two of his sisters.

P.M.NEWS gathered that Samuel Adeleye, 5, Dorcas Adeleye, 3, and Ayomide Adeleye, 10, were playing outside the house at 6, Oyekanmi Street, Lawanson, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, when the fence collapsed on them.

The three victims were said to have been rushed to hospital where Samuel later died while his two sisters are currently receiving treatment.

The Lagos State Police Public Relation Officer, Mr Samuel Jinadu (DSP), confirmed the story, saying the case is under investigation to determine the cause of the fence collapse.

In another development, a building at 12 Shofusi Street, Alagbado, collapsed and killed 5-year-old Power Onyegbule.

The Divisional Police Officer in charge of Alagbado Police Station was said to have immediately dispatched a team of policemen to the scene on a rescue miossion but the child died before help could reach him. The police removed the corpse to a public mortuary for autopsy, while the matter is under investigation.

The state police image maker advised members of the public to always use standard materials when building their houses to avoid cases of collapse resulting in loss of lives and properties.

In another development, a commercial motorcyclist who allegedly drove against traffic had a head-on collision with his unregistered motorcycle, a Bajaj Boxer, with a Nissan Bus marked KC790DAL, along Imota-Itokin Road.

The motorcyclist who was identified as Ogundipe Olusegun was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later died. His corpse has since been taken to a public mortuary for autopsy.

Mr. Samuel Jinaid, PPRO, Lagos State, therefore, advised motorists to desist from driving against traffic.
