BRT Driver Docked For Dangerous Driving

A bus driver with the Bus Rapid Transit Scheme, Joshua Bakare has been arraigned before the Ikeja Magistrate’s Court sitting at Abule Egba, Lagos for dangerous and careless driving which led to the knocking down of a pedestrian, Moshood Asoremasika.

The prosecuting police officer, Lugard Ahonle alleged that the accused drove dangerously and carelessly on the public highway without having regard for other road users, lost control and knocked down Moshood Asoremasika on 30 March, 2011.

The two-count charge is punishable under Sections 27(1), 28(1), Cap.172, Vol. 7 of the Road Traffic Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

Count one of the charge reads: “That you, Joshua Bakare on 30 March, 2011 along the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway by Adealu Bus Stop in the Ikeja Magisterial District drove dangerously and carelessly and knocked down a pedestrian, Moshood Asoremasika.

Count two reads: “That you, Joshua Bakare on the same date and time drove on the public highway in a careless and inconsiderate manner without having regard for other road users, lost control and knocked down Moshood Asoremasikia.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and the magistrate, Mr. Owolabi Komolafe granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with a surety and adjourned the case till 23 May, 2011.
