The Lagos State Government has said that it has completed 150 roads measuring 176.03 kilometres in the last four years.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ganiyu Johnson, disclosed this while giving account of his stewardship in office in the last four years.

He said 84 other road projects were ongoing and would further deliver 197.20 kilometres of road across the length and breadth of the State.

Some of the completed projects are Mobil-Boundary road in Ajeromi-Ifelodun; Abule Egba-Ekoro road, Isheri-Olofin-Iba-Ojo-LASU road, Fagbayi road network, Modupe Ayoade Street, Prince Abiodun Adebambo Street, Akowonjo road and Ago-Palace Way Extension phases I and II.

There are also Comfort Oboh Street, Abdullahi Street, Apapa CBD, Phases I and II, Fadaini Street, Badia; Mosalashi Street, Badia; Bourdillon, Alexandra, Gerrard and Osborne roads, among others.

Johnson stated that 13 projects involving provision of street light, transformers and high tension tower/power have been completed, while there were still two outstanding ones.

“In addition to the street light provided along the newly constructed roads, about 2,455 poles spanning about 85.58 kilometres of street lighting projects were installed across the state.

“The Public Works Corporation also complemented these projects through the maintenance of 195 roads, while 132 others are ongoing across the state,” he said.

Explaining that the road construction and rehabilitation programme of the Fashola-led administration placed premium on the strategic nature of the roads, Johnson said the projects were designed to improve the environment, reduce traffic congestion and abate flood.

He added that the projects were designed to improve the socioeconomic condition of the particular area, disclosing that no local government area was without the presence of the state government.

The special adviser said the administration had also completed 30 public buildings ranging from courts, playgrounds, maternal child care centres to e- learning centres, while 47 others were ongoing.

According to him, of the nine overhead link bridges initiated by the administration, four had been completed while five were ongoing, adding that five pedestrian bridges were also initiated with three already completed.

“The massive infrastructure improvement programmes in all nooks and crannies of the state have enhanced job creation, economic empowerment, poverty alleviation and a healthy living of the citizenry,” he stated.

Johnson also said that during the last four years, work had started on the expansion of Lagos-Badagry Expressway to 10 lanes with a light rail and BRT corridors, which would further enhance tourism and economic activities along the axis.
