Mimiko Commends Nigerian Army Over Neutrality in Elections

Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko at the weekend commended the officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces for their roles and contributions towards the success of last month’s general elections in the country.

The governor gave the commendation in Akure while playing host to the Commander 32 Artillery Brigade Abeokuta, Brigadier General Modibbo Alkali.

According to Mimiko, the military and other security agencies played significant roles in the success of the exercise, which he said had rekindled the hope of Nigerians in the nation’s democracy and acceptability by the comity of nations.

His words: “the success of the last general elections in this country, particularly in Ondo State was due largely to the very professional way the security forces, especially the armed forces comported themselves in terms of security arrangement. One cannot but be proud of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

“Like I mentioned several times in the course of our Security Council meetings, we are truly proud of the officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies in Ondo State. So through you, I want to thank the Chief of Army Staff and other members of the Nigerian Armed Forces for making Nigeria proud,” Governor Mimiko stated

He added that “Whatever anybody says, the whole world is applauding Nigeria for the first time. Although it’s not perfect yet, there is no question about the fact that the last election has rekindled a new hope in Nigerians, that this country will soon attain its manifest destiny”.

Earlier in his speech, the Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Abeokuta, General Alkali, who said he was on tour of the formations under his Command, thanked the state government for its support towards the welfare of officers and men of the Nigerian Army in the state.

He also congratulated the governor on the peaceful conduct of the last elections in the state, attributing the success to his managerial capability and commitment to the enthronement of an enduring democracy in the state and in the nation as a whole.

He said the governor was an able and capable leader of men.
