Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has sacked Chief Nnamdi Wokekoro, and immediately announced the appointment of Mr Isobo Jack, the Proprietor of Bootleggers, a popular night club in Port Harcourt, as the new Chairman of Rivers State Environmental Sanitation Authority.

Wokekoro, a former Chairman of Port Harcourt City Council has been the chairman of the Sanitation Authority since the inception of Governor Amaechi’s administration.

However, the governor had not hidden the fact that his administration had not fared well in that area.

Although P.M.NEWS cannot ascertain the immediate reason for the sack of the chairman, it would be recalled that last month some officials from the Sanitation Authority beat a female trader to death in Rumuigbo, Port Harcourt simply because she refused to part with goods and money for an alleged sanitation offence.

According to eyewitness account, immediately the woman slumped and died, the officials took to their heels.

Since the incident, the suspects have been on the wanted list of the State Police Command.

A source at the Authority confided that the problem the past chairman was confronted with throughout his tenure was that all the major environmental sanitation contractors were top public officers in Amaechi’s administration and so it was difficult to sanction them.

A statement from the Office of the Acting Chief Press Secretary, Mr Blessing Wikina says that the former Chairman is to hand over all assets belonging to the State Environmental Sanitation Authority to the new chairman immediately as the appointment takes immediate effect.
