Barely 48 hours to the final of the 17th African Youth Championship, AYC, between Nigeria and their archrivals, Cameroon at the Dobsonville Stadium in South Africa, coach of Cameroon, Martin Mphile has vowed to beat the Flying Eagles again.

Coach Mphile was in charge when they defeated the Nigerian side coached by John Obuh 1-0 during the group stage and has declared that come Sunday, he would show to the whole world that the first defeat was not a fluke as he topped the group with seven points.

According to him; “we are well prepared to show that our victory against Nigeria in the group stage was not a fluke. It wasn’t easy, but we are going to beat Nigeria again come Sunday”.

“We will win again, Nigeria will be scared of losing against us for the second time and with the rematch being the final, psychologically, we will have an edge but we won’t underrate them.”

Both teams booked their places in the final after seeing off their respective opponents at the semi-final stage. Nigeria defeated Mali 2-0, while Cameroon booked their place with a 4-2 defeat of Egypt in the second semi-final yesterday.

Reacting on his team’s performance in their semi-final match against Egypt, Mphile admitted that the North Africans put up a good fight, saying “it was tough against Egypt and we were lucky in the penalty shootout.

Meanwhile, his Nigerian counterpart, Obuh said that he is ready to take his pound of flesh from the Cameroonians, a team that have inflicted the only defeat on the Flying Eagles in South Africa. He added that he has told his team to take Sunday’s encounter as a do-or die affair.

“I want the Flying Eagles to be focused and they must take the game to cameroon this time around. Nigeria can’t be twice beaten, we are getting set for the junior Lions,” the Nigerian coach said.
