PDP Sweeps Plateau, Taraba, Delta States; Ogboru Loses Again

Victory Cheers: Senator Abiola Ajimobi, Oyo State governor-elect and his wife, in victory cheers yesterday after kicking out Oyo bad boy, Adebayo Alao-Akala.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has added Plateau, Taraba states and Delta States to its electoral spoils, according to new results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Plateau State Governor and People’s Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, Jonah David Jang, was re-elected after he overwhelmingly trounced his opponents.

 

Jang polled 823,536 total votes across 14 local government areas out of the 17 in the state. His closest rival , the Deputy Governor and Labour Party candidate, Pauline Tallen could only secure 494,975votes.

 

Tallen’s Labour Party, LP, won three local government areas where her party enjoys strong support in the state. They are Kanam, Bokkos and Jos East local government areas. She lost her native Shendam local government to her boss, Governor Jang. The governor got 35,064 votes while Tallen got 26,605 votes.

 

After several hours of delay and waiting at the Jos INEC office, the results of the governorship elections held on Tuesday was formally declared early today by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos , Professor Sonni Tyoden.

 

According to him, PDP polled 823,536 votes to emerge winner of the election. Labour Party came second with 494,723 votes, ANPP polled 28,723 votes to come third while ACN got 42,897 votes.

 

Also, Governor Danbaba Suntai of Taraba State who contested under the platform of PDP has also won.

He defeated his closest rival, M. Mustapha of the Congress for Progressive Chance, CPC, by 361,176 votes to 176,342 votes.

 

In Delta state, the rivalry between Great Ogboru of the DPP and Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has been settled once again, with Uduaghan beating Ogboru for the Government House in Asaba.

 

In a very tight race, and after 48 hours of collating the result, INEC today announced Uduaghan the winner. He polled 525,793 votes to Ogboru’s 433,834 votes.

 

The duo in January contested for the governorship seat, following Ogboru’s victory in the Appeal Court, challenging the victory of Uduaghan in the April 2007 election.

 

Ogboru also ran for the post in 2003.
