U-23 Eagles Back In Training

After a brief holiday due to the gubernatorial and state House of Assembly elections held across the country yesterday, Nigeria’s U-23 Eagles are back in training in Benin City, Edo State, ahead of their weekend’s All Africa Games qualifier against Liberia.

The Nigerian team played 1-1 draw with Liberia in the first leg of the qualifier in Monrovia a fornight ago, and are looking forward to winning the weekend’s game scheduled for the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin.

To beef up his team, Coach Austin Eguavoen has extended invitation to former Bendel Insurance and Kano Pillars midfielder Solomon Okpako.

Okpako, who presently plays for Greek side, Panionios is one of the three foreign newcomers invited for the crucial tie. The 20-year-old was instrumental to Super Eagles Team B’s winning of the last WAFU Cup. Eguavoen has also opened the door for former JUTH of Jos striker, Fatai Kehinde, who plays for Astra Ploiesti in Romania. He has made 10 appearances at the U-20 level, scoring six goals.

Also invited is Hapoel Acre of Israel star, Dimaku Tochukwu Fidelis, Dele Ajiboye (Pontevedra-Spain), Nurudeen Orelesi (Dinamo Tirana- Albania), Edet Ibok (Atletico Baleares- Spain) Uchechi Chima (Leicester City – England), Nosa Igiebor (Lillestrom-Norway), Ganiyu Oseni (Kieng Giang-Vietnam) and Nnamdi Oduamadi (AC Milan- Italy).
