Eguavoen Hails U-23 Eagles

Coach of the national U-23 Eagles, Austin Eguavoen is full of praises for his team’s performance that saw Nigeria qualify for the next round of the 2012 Olympics football qualifier.

The U-23 Eagles completed a 9-1 aggreate victory over  Equatorial Guinea in yesterday’s game in Malabo. The Nigerian team beat their host 4-1 in the second leg match. They had earlier in the first leg, played a fortnight ago in Benin, Edo State spanked the Central African team 5-0.

“We have shown today (yesterday) that we have a great squad. Even without most of our foreign-based stars, we still put in a great display, I congratulate the boys for playing to instructions and I also congratulate Nigerians for a great result,” he told SuperSport.com.

Hattrick hero, Warri Wolves striker Ekigho Ehiosun, expressed joy at his feat but showed remarkable humility by declaring that his teammates made it happen for him.

“It is not easy to score three goals in a match as important as this. But I am happy for this feat. It would not have been possible without the support of my teammates.I want to say a big thank you to them,” he said.
