A former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, Dr. Wale Ahmed, has slammed the party’s governorship candidate, Dr. Adegboyega Dosunmu, for saying he would scrap the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Kick against Indiscipline (KAI) Brigade, which employed over 10,000 Lagosians.

Ahmed, who is now a chieftain of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), described the ploy as dangerous and a show of incompetence for planning to scrap agencies that provide employment for over 10,000 Lagosians and their dependants, adding that it shows that Dosunmu is bereft of ideas, callous and incompetent.

In a statement, Ahmed said at a time when even the Federal Government seemed not to have solution to the problem of unemployment, threatening to scrap, rather than copying the employment models of Lagos, showed that Dosunmu should never be trusted with power.

Ahmed stated that Lagos residents could only imagine the level of traffic chaos that would be created in Lagos if the officers and men of LASTMA were withdrawn from the roads for some hours, not to talk of what it would be if there is a complete withdrawal.

According to him, rather posturing and theorising, Dosumu should come up with practical solution to challenges confronting the people of Lagos as being done over the last four years by the Governor Babatunde Fashola administration.

Ahmed explained that some agencies like LASTMA which Dosumu is threatening to scrap have become models being studied by others, including PDP states.

“Dosunmu would have displayed competence and intelligence by showing how he would improve on those employment generation agencies rather than recklessly talking about scrapping this and that.

“After the sack of Ade Dosunmu from NIMASA, he came out in a colourless and lacklustre manner to contest the governorship. In the last four months since he took the ticket, he had displayed no knowledge on fundamental issues of Lagos,” he said.

Ahmed, who was a former chieftain of the PDP in Lagos, said LASTMA officials were too important to be treated as post-sack pastime as the PDP governorship candidate proposed, while describing the plan as insensible.
