15 Emerge In Toyota's Contest

Toyota Nigeria Limited (TNL) in conjunction with Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) Japan, recently organised a car art contest for Nigerian children from the six geo-political zones. At the end of the exercise, which was held between the last quarter of 2010 and first quarter of 2011, 15 Nigerian children emerged finalists.

TNL in a statement explained that the car art contest with theme The Toyota Dream Car Art Contest, was designed to promote creativity in young people. Explaining further, TNL said, “Eligible to participate in the national contest were students in secondary and primary schools cutting across three different age categories.” Category one, according to TNL was for children under 10 years; category two for those between ages 10 years and 12 years; and the category three took care of contestants within the ages of 13 and 15 years.

TNL added that schools in the public and private sectors across the six geo-political zones of Nigeria participated in the contest. At the end of the exercise, according to TNL, over 200 entries from participants were collated and a panel of creative arts professionals was constituted to do a careful selection using environmental friendliness, safety and futuristic as yardsticks for selection.

The statement explained that the 15 best entries received their certificates of excellence at TNL’s ultra-modern office located in Lekki, Lagos State, adding that the Managing Director, TNL, Mr. K. Thampy, and the General Manager in Charge of Operations, Mr. Kunle Ade-Ojo, presented the certificates to them.

The statement explained that the children were also presented with mini lap tops and other corporate gifts in addition to the certificates. TNL said, “Each category was expected to produce five winning entries, which would be sent to Japan to contest with entries from other parts of the world. The overall winner in each category will have the opportunity to travel to Japan to attend the award ceremony, which will feature presentation of special jury award, as well as world’s finalist award.”
