Lovers of good old highlife music are in for a big surprise as their idol and grand father of the music genre, Dr. Victor Abimbola Olaiya (OON), is set to release a new work into the market.

Speaking on the development, Olaiya, who was recently honoured with a car gift by the governor of his home state, Ekiti, said the move became necessary as, according to him, he has been under pressure from his fans and other music lovers, to record an album which he is now working on.

Asked to disclose when the album will be ready, the octogenarian said: “it is too early for that. As soon as it is ready, people will know. For now, that is all I can say on the project.”

A very close source to the ace trumpeter fondly called Evil Genius of highlife music, said he is involving some of his children in the project. They include Bayode, a banker and trumpeter, who leads his All Stars International Orchestra to thrill fans and guests every Saturday at the Papingo Night Club of Stadium Hotel; Bidemi, who plays saxophone, Biodun, another trumpeter and Toba, a lady, who plays the guitar with dexterity, among other regular members of the band.

Meanwhile, the stage is set once again for the band to dazzle fans and guests alike tomorrow at the Papingo Night Club of Stadium Hotel, Surulere, Lagos.

The show, which is in continuation of the veteran musician’s weekly performance at the club, will also feature other guest artistes including another veteran highlife musician, Alaba Pedro; ageless juju music act, Chief Solomon Folorunso Olowookere a.k.a. S.F. Olowookere and Blessing Moore a.k.a. Young Orlando, among others.
