2 Robbery Suspects Remanded

Detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria have arraigned two robbery suspects before an Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos State

The accused, Rasaq Ogedengbe, 25, Sanusi Olalekan Usman, 20, were alleged to have robbed Raphael Chukwujekwu of his properties worth N140,000 on 27 February, 2011 at 13, Calistus Ude Street, Oke-Afa, Ejigbo Lagos State.

He was arraigned on a three-count charge of armed robbery, conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearms, offences punishable under Section 6 (b), 1 (2), (a) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act., Cap. 398, Vol. XXII, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 1990 as amended and Section 3(1) of the Firearms Act., Cap.398, Vol. XXII, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 1990 as amended.

Count one of the charges reads: “That you, Rasaq Ogedengbe, Sanusi Olalekan Usman and others at large on 27 February, 2011 at about 11a.m. at 13, Calistus Ude Street, Oke-Afa, Ejigbo in the Lagos Magisterial District did conspire to commit felony, to wit: armed robbery and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 6 (b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act., Cap.398, Vol. XXII, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 1990 as amended.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges but their pleas were not taken.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. J. Ugbomoiko, ordered that he should be remanded in prison until advice is received from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The case has been adjourned till 29 April, 2011.
