The Eko Club, a social club for indigenes of Lagos State has given reasons why four of the governorship candidates in the state are being hosted in an interactive session.

The president of the club, Prince Samusideen Alani-Ope, said that apart from the club trying to know what the candidates have in stock for Lagosians, the four governorship candidates invited for the sessions are members of the club.

The candidates are Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola of the Action Congress of Nigeria, People’s Democratic Party’s candidate, Dr. Samsideen Ade Dosunmu; Chief Rasheed B. Fanimokun of the African Liberation Party and Chief Jaiye K. Randle of the Social Democratic Movement Party.

Prince Alani-Ope said though the club is not partisan, the interactive session is being organised for the governorship candidates who are members of the club so that other club members could know where and to assist any of the candidates who is elected.

According to the chairman, ‘‘we only organised the session for governorship candidates who are members of our club and we have four of them who are our members. We believed that this session will enable us to know their programmes so that each member can contribute some things if anyone of them is voted to office.’’

The club’s chairman explained that the interaction is not to influence members of the club to vote for a particular candidate as it’s not partisan, rather the decision to vote for a particular candidate rests solely on each member of the club.

On the possibility of extending the session to other candidates, the chairman said the club is only concerned with the governorship candidates who are members of the club, adding that such extension could come up in the future.
