Crown Coach, Godfrey Esu, is confident that the mid-season break will provide enough time for him to overhaul the team.

The Ogbomosho-based club, which have since found a new home in Ilaro offered Esu a second chance to coach the club after his successor, Ganiyu Salami, was shown the exit door following a string of poor results that culminated in an embarrassing 0-2 defeat to Bukola Babes at home.

Although, Crown outclassed Gombe United 2-0 on match day to finish the first half of the league in style, the club still remain in the drop zone with 18 points from 19 matches.

“I’ve noticed there’s a lot of work to be done in the attack. I’m not satisfied with the attackers in the team.

“Some invited players are already with us and I intend to take a look at them to identify those who will boost the team ahead of the second round. The focus will be on strikers,” Esu told Super Sport.com.

The former 3SC, NPA and Enyimba coach noted that the team have recorded some improvement since his return.

First choice goalkeeper, Ayobami Ojo, believes Crown can make a bold attempt in the second round.

“We won’t go down because the team have been playing well in recent times. The players must show they deserve to be in the Premier League,” he said.

Crown threw 12 points away at home after losing to Dolphins, Bukola Babes, Enyimba and Enugu Rangers and recorded a famous road trip victory at fellow strugglers, Plateau United, which led to the dismissal of Nduka Ndubuisi.

The January transfer of Super Eagles invitee, Harrison Egbune and Phillip Asuquo to Premier League rivals, Sunshine Stars, affected the team’s power house, but there are brighter days ahead as youngster Femi Ajayi, John Fashanu, Gabriel Agu and Taofeek Akanbi among others have now become pillars of the team.
