Ace comedian, Holy Mallam is set to drag Nira Records, a replication company in West Africa, to court over a breach of agreement.

Holy Mallam, through his lawyer, claims that the company did not comply with statutory laws regulating and guiding replication of literary works. The  negligence, according to him, has affected his public image and led to loss of goodwill.

Speaking on the action, Holy Mallam said: “We gave them my work HolyMallam Music Plus Comedy audio CD to replicate and they went to record a Yoruba movie in it. We gave them 5,000 copies to replicate last year and the marketer was taking it bit by bit and in the first few weeks, they did the first 500 which we circulated and at that time there was no problem at all.

“It was during the replication of the second phase that they recorded a Yoruba movie in the CDs taken to the market. People started returning the CD. When we checked the CD with my CD title and picture, it had a Yoruba movie in it. It took me years to rebrand, repackage and introduce the CDs into the market and someone is trying to tarnish the integrity that took me years to build.

“I am not happy about this and they are not remorseful either,” he added.

To right the wrong, Holly Mallam is demanding a sum of 10 million naira from Nira Audio Visuals and in the case where the audio-visual company refuses to pay, they will be dragged to court.

Yinka Oyeniji, lead counsel to Holy Mallam said Nira is treating the case lightly because no one has dared complained about their errors in time past because they are supposed to be best.

“Here, is a Nigerian who is determined to stand up for his right and fight to gain respect for himself and his country men from foreigners who think we are supposed to take everything they shove down our throats. We are going to pursue this matter to a logical conclusion,” he vowed.
