A graduate, Mr. Ralph Nwachukwu, has asked an Agege Customary Court presided by Mr. E.B. Shokunle, to dissolve his eight-year old marriage because his wife, Margaret Nwachukwu, was barren.
The petitioner accused his wife of not having faith in God by going from one church to another. “She doesn’t have faith in God. She goes to different churches as far as Ogun State.
“I told her to stop bothering herself and have faith in God but she refused. She warned me that if I stopped her from going to churches, she will pack away from my house. I have never at any point in time thought of sending her packing because of lack of the fruit of the womb,†he stated.
The respondent, in her defence, told the court that she had a dream when she was four month pregnant and decided to attend churches for prayers.
She explained that she did a scan and discovered that she had fibroid but the doctor said there was nothing wrong with her.
“I knelt down and begged my husband to find a place in his heart to forgive me, instead, he pushed me away. We no longer eat, sleep nor pray together as a family,†she revealed.
In his judgment, the presiding magistrate dissolved the marriage and asked the parties to maintain absolute peace.
