Police Rescue Kidnapped Girls From Rapist

The police in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria have arrested a 42-year old man, Emmanuel Akpan, for allegedly kidnapping two girls from Edo State and raping one of them.

The victims were identified as 14-year old Happiness Friday and 12-year old Cynthia Ebuzele. The girls were abducted from Edo State and brought to Lagos by the suspect.

The suspect allegedly told the police at the Abattoir Station, Agege, Lagos during interrogation that he was a friend to the fathers of the two girls and that he brought them to Lagos to train them because he has no family.

“I needed someone to stay with me and the two girls were my friends’ children. I told their fathers that I was going to train them and their parents gave them to me. I brought them to Lagos to live with me,” Akpan told the police in his statement.

He also confessed that he was sleeping with Happiness Friday and blamed his action on the devil.

When P.M.NEWS asked him what he does for a living, he described himself as a carpenter, adding that he was still searching for a job.

He claimed further that he sold his motorcycle a month ago for N10,000, adding that he has been using the money to feed himself and the two girls.

The suspect revealed that his original intention was to bring only Happiness to Lagos but she refused and insisted that he takes Cynthia along so that she will not feel lonely.

On how he was arrested, he said he went to buy food and when he came back he met policemen in his house who arrested him.

Speaking with P.M.NEWS on the arrest, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Samuel Jinadu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, confirmed the story and explained that Mr. Ebuzele, the father of Cynthia came to the station to identify her and the girl was released to him on bond.

The police spokesman also confirmed that Happiness Friday has been taken to Edo State along with the suspect to locate her parents.
