A group, Concerned Citizens of Nigeria, CCN, has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria and other law enforcement agencies not to relent in their hunt for members of the Boko Haram group in the northern part of the country.

Chairman of CCN, Comrade Olasunkanmi Ogunlola, while speaking with P.M.NEWS in Lagos recently on the spate of killings in Jos, the capital of Plateau State and other problems in the country, commended the efforts of the police in arresting some members of the Boko Haram so far, but reiterated that it is not enough, urging the police and other law enforcements agents to comb all nooks and crannies of the country for the perpetrators.

According to Ogunlola, “we are not saying that the police are not trying, but what we are saying is that they should do more. For instance, some of the Boko Haram boys that were arrested in connection with the killings of people in the Christian community in Jos last year managed to escape.

“I can vividly recall that one Jimoh Haruna and his cohorts were reported to have escaped shortly after their arrest. We want the police to be at alert because these boys can still strike anytime. Besides, we want them re-arrested as soon as possible.”

On 7 March last year, some Christian communities in Jos were attacked by heavily armed men suspected to be Boko Haram members. In the process, hundreds of lives were lost, while those who managed to escape did so with multiple injuries. Most of the people killed were children and women.

There have also been other attacks as the crisis rocking Jos seems to be far from coming to an end. While it is perceived to be a religious war, some analysts have claimed that the crisis in Jos is politically motivated.
