Two Nigerian Idol Evictees Bag Record Deal

As the competition gets tougher each week, contestants are beginning to see that Nigerian Idol, a reality TV show, is not only a platform for who will eventually emerge winner, but also a big stepping stone for all contestants in the competition.

There are indications that two out of the six finalists who recently left the competition may actually be in talks with record label owners who are willing to sign them on following a great outing in the competition.

A reliable source at the Dream Studios disclosed to Showbiz Trends that Lynxx and his team at Syndic8 Records are talking to AJ, while Chocolate City wants to sign Tonii on.

The source said while AJ’s connection to Syndic8 Records still remains sketchy, Tonii’s deal with Chocolate City may not be far from the truth as investigation has revealed that many believe Audu Maikori is the author of Tonii’s comeback to the show during the wild card twist.

“There are a lot of talented singers in the competition and trust me, Tonii is one of them and this does not mean we’re going to sign her on,” disclosed Audu Maikori when contacted last week.

Ajumoke Nwaeze (AJ) and Toni Afolayan (Tonii) have before now released singles to the Nigerian market. AJ, a former member of Diamonds Band, winners of 2008 Star Quest while still in the Idols House, made it public that she was no longer a member of the band.

Oluwatoni Afolayan, who we have all come to know as Tonii, started singing in the church, but became an active actor in the industry in 2008. The unsigned young lady made a lot of buzz with her single, Silateya, in 2008.

Since Nigerian Idol debuted on Sunday, 21 November, 2010, TV audiences in Nigeria, UK and USA have been treated to the high and low of hopefuls who trooped out to audition for the music reality show.

Last week, Tonii and George left the competition and it is looking like the contestants are getting used to the Thursday result show as the tears on stage reduced. With Nigerian Idol in its first season, the show is adding more icing to the cake as there are speculations that the winner will drive home a brand new car in addition to the grand prize of N7.5 million and a record deal with Sony BMG.

The winner will be announced on 27 March, 2011 at a star-studded grand finale.
