Niger head coach Harouna Doula paid tribute to his team after defeating Zimbabwe 1-0 in their opening match in Medany. Doula admitted though that his side had ridden their luck and had been saved by all the accumulative experience of goalkeeper Rabo Kabara Saminou, a CAF Champions League winner with Enyimba of Nigeria. Doula said he was pleased with the way the day had gone and now could hardly wait to face South Africa tomorrow in their next match. Doula spoke to Cafonline.com after his team victory over Zimbabwe.
Share with us how you are feeling after your first match?
Great feeling indeed, l am feeling good we have three points and it was tough match but we won
The match could have gone either way; did you also see it that way?
Well, yes it was tough and they have a strong attack but we wanted to win too and l suppose in the end we did more to win. My boys are also feeling good about this result today, they worked hard for it.
Wasn’t your goalkeeper just brilliant in the match?
Oh yes he saved us indeed but so did their goalkeeper. l thought he was very good too. Of course our keeper is experienced, having played for Enyimba of Nigeria and Cotton Sport of Cameroon. So you see he is top player with great experience and he was fantastic.
You are playing South Africa in your second match, what can we expect from Niger?
This is one match we are looking forward to. Now that both of us have three points and we are in the same CAN 2012 qualifying group with South Africa. We can’t wait to play them. It’ll be an exciting match for us. Not only that, we will play to win so that our team can move on in the competition. We are ready for the match.
