With their 1-0 victory over Sunshine Stars of Akure at the weekend in Port Harcourt, Dolphins FC still maintain their leadership position on Nigeria Premier League table.

Prior to kickoff, both sides were occupying the top two positions on the table, separated by a solitary point.

The leaders however, swarmed upon their guests in a frenetic opening ten minutes that saw them carved chance after chance.

Daddy Morris was particularly impressive as he had two great opportunities from close range within the first ten minutes.

Emma Nwachi almost opened the scoring for the leaders soon after but his powerful header from six yards was saved spectacularly by Henry Ayodele.

Dolphins continued to dominate and duly got their reward in brilliant fashion in the 20th minute with a truly great goal.

A flowing attacking move that involved five players culminated in a super finish by Ghanaian import, Owusu Addae, who smacked an unstoppable half volley home off an outrageous clipped pass from Emma Nwachi.

Sunshine Stars upped the ante as they desperately looked to get back into the game.

They found the leaders’ backline uncompromising though as Kennedy Chinwo put in a brave performance to deny Gbenga Ogunbote’s men any clear cut opportunity.

Sunshine Stars were rejuvenated after the break and pinned Dolphins in their own half for long periods.

Cletus Itodo had the best chance to rescue a point for Sunshine later on but his well-struck shot from the edge of the box was pushed away for a corner by Rotimi.

“This is an important win. We are moving in the right direction and we will continue in our push towards our target,” Coach of Dolphin, Stanley Eguma told SuperSport.com.

Gbenga Ogunbote of Sunshine was still full of fight despite the defeat.

“We will win the league,’ he said simply.

Dolphin now has 30 points from 14 matches while Sunshine stays 2nd despite the defeat.
