As the newly elected PMAN executive-led by Admiral Dele Abiodun take the oath office on Teusday, 8 February, 2011, the new president has accused his predecessor in office, Chief Tony Okoroji, of misleading the younger generation of musicians.
Speaking with P.M. Entertainment recently, Adawa Super king as Abiodun is popularly called, said: “I am surprised that a person of Okoroji’s stature could lead the younger ones to Osun State with an intention to take over the association. It is never done anywhere.â€
According to him, Okoroji, being a foundation member of PMAN, the Constitution Drafting Committee and former President of the association he ran for seven years, should know better.
“PMAN’s election is by Delegates Conference and not by crowd or any other means. Some of the artistes that came to Osogbo, Osun State, are not card-carrying members of the association and don’t belong to any chapter of the association. So they should go and register first before any other thing,†he said.
While calling on the younger generation of artistes to come and be part of the association, Abiodun said: “If they want to form a parallel association, all is well and good, there is freedom of association, but PMAN is a trade union and the umbrella body for all musicians, I don’t want to die in the office. I want to hand over to the younger ones, but they should start from somewhere.â€
Reacting to the allegations, Okoroji said “Dele is my friend and I am proud of him, but nobody can stop the new generation artistes from expressing themselves because they are part of the industry and nobody can deny them of that.â€
