Toyota reigned supreme in 2010 with total global sales from its brands of 8.42 million vehicles, followed closely by General Motors with 8.39 million vehicles sold – and today we learn that Renault-Nissan combined for an impressive 7.2 million vehicles sold worldwide.
Renault-Nissan’s total sales managed to edge out Volkswagen Group, by an equally slim margin with 7.2 million sales versus VW AG’s 7.14 million.
The performance by Renault-Nissan Alliance marked a record year, with exact total sales coming in at 7,276,398 units sold, which marked a 19.6 percent increase compared to 2009.
The alliance says that its sales accounted for a 10.3 percent share of the world’s sales. At VW AG, things were also positive as the automaker group passed the 7 million mark for the first time ever by recording 7.13 million units sold, a 13.5 percent increase.
VW execs commented on their performance, saying that they are well on their way to reaching their top world rank.
